“Annette’s Climb” is an annual fundraising hike in the name of Annette Soares, a victim of domestic violence, who lost her life ten years ago at the age of thirty-nine. The hike is a metaphor for the struggle and climb Annette, like all victims, endured through abuse. The event and hike are opportunities to build community while raising awareness of the personal and economic destruction that result from domestic violence. Annette’s brother, John Soares, began “Annette’s Climb”.
On April 27, 2013, we will embark on the 11th Annual Annette’s Climb, a true team effort to raise critically needed funds to help support victims in crisis as well as enable others to break the cycle of violence through education. In the last ten years, we have gone from 18 hikers to over 120 participants. As most of you know, Annette’s Climb, Inc. (ACI) is an all-volunteer organization and became incorporated in 2006. We remain committed to our mission as we strive to change patterns of violence in our society.
Since 2002, ACI has raised over $300,000. Our fundraising efforts are dedicated to supporting the great work that HAWC (Healing Abuse, Working for Change) continues to provide the North Shore area. Their programs include individual support to victims, counseling and support groups, legal advocacy, services to children and youth, community-wide education and training and many other valuable services. Additionally, ACI has partnered with the North Shore Community College’s Women in Transition Program (WIT). The WIT Program is a strength-based, supportive learning community of mature students dedicated to easing the transition to college, career, and life changing possibilities. After completion of this one-year program, students will move on to pursue their educational, professional and personal goals.
All this has occurred because of the hard work and generous support from people like you!
Thank you,
